Over the past 60 years, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has evolved from its original role as a Veterans’ hospital into a centre of excellence in patient care, education and research.
Today, Sunnybrook specializes in caring for Canada’s war veterans, highrisk pregnancies, critically-ill newborns, adults and the elderly, and treating and preventing cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, orthopaedic and arthritic conditions and traumatic injuries. The hospital is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and provides learning opportunities for more than 2,000 students annually.
Sunnybrook is also a research intensive hospital and each year the organization’s more than 600 scientists conduct $100 million in breakthrough research.
