Welcome to the New World of Health Care Service

Globe with StethoscopeNo time in recorded history have we had so many schools of education and learning, and at no time have had such a well educated work force.

If this is the case and indeed it is, then why are there so many people looking for work? As the worlds' economy has grown, it has become smaller in terms of economic dependence on a global scale. It has created a dependence, which has not been fully developed in terms of safety nets and security when something goes wrong with a government, terrorism, financial failures, or a trade partner.

The individual who is afraid to move to a new area with new opportunities from an area that is economically depressed is doomed to a life of mediocrity. That does not mean that one can not be happy and live a productive life, it just means that they are self-limiting in terms of growth and expansion of their education and talents.

In spite of the economic conditions in any given area, there is always a need for personal services and good people to provide those services. The world is not shrinking and the demand for personal services is not diminishing. What is lacking in the personal services are well-trained, skilled individuals with a service oriented mentality to serve, in other words people with a “service” mentality.

It is easy to evaluate ones education and experience, but how can you measure ones attitude? When you hold a position in the health care field you are in first line personal service. You are working with an individual, one on one; whether you work in a large hospital or a small clinic you touch the life of an individual with every service you perform. One must have a sincere caring attitude. You can not hide or fake that attitude when caring for a person who is suffering with a health problem. They can feel when those who are caring for them have a companionate attitude and when they are just going through the motions. A caring companionate attitude makes a great difference in the healing process of those you are caring for.

People do not care how much you know until they know you care. Sometimes we try to baffle our patients with our education and skill; however that is of little use if the patient does not feel that you have a personal interest in them as an individual.

The more you give of yourself the more you will receive. To fully realize you’re potential as a health care provider one must be fully engaged in the work. It is a life long calling.
